MY GUM RETRACTED

WHY DOES THE GUM RETURN?

The soft tissue surrounding the teeth is the gums. The gums are always as high as the height of the underlying bone. If the bone height decreases or transforms, the position of the gums will also change.

During gingivitis, the gums are edematous and swollen, which is why it can often cover the gums. Inflamed gums regain their physiological form upon healing, i.e. they may recede after edema.

There are basically two types of gum biotype: thick biotype and thin biotype. Those with a thin biotype of gums may respond with a gingival retraction instead of an inflammatory sac, but a thick biotype may result in the formation of a sac.

WHAT CAN RETURN THE GUM, WHAT CHANGES THE HEIGHT OF THE SUB-GUM BONE TISSUE?

  • if the patient has a thin biotype of gums and suffers from inflammation or trauma. This trauma can even be the result of improper brushing techniques.

  • due to the accumulation of tartar, the tooth securing bone is destroyed during periodontitis, which leads to gingival retraction

  • untreated cervical caries

  • cracked thin cervical enamel

  • during tooth extraction, not only the tooth but also the vascular system around the tooth is removed, so the bone withers at the site of the pull, which can often affect the periodontal and gums around adjacent teeth.

  • during orthodontic treatment, if the tooth is adjusted outside the bony envelope, gingival retraction may occur due to bone loss around the tooth

  • trauma caused by mouth piercings can also damage the gums and bone tissue

  • after oral surgery if the inflammation was severe

THERAPEUTIC REDUCTION THERAPY

  • If the cause of the retracted gum is orthodontics, that particular tooth should be moved back inside the bony envelope.

  • If the cause is caries, cervical rupture, piercing trauma, and the lateral papillae of the tooth can be corrected, it can be corrected with a gingival surgical solution - Our clinic does not deal with these procedures.

  • If the cause is due to gingival destruction, there is little chance of surgical correction of gingival retraction, in which case the solution is to eliminate periodontitis and maintain a healthy condition with the receding gums.
