- the patient has Temporomandibular joints problems after the old filling procedure

 

sometimes colored old aethetic fillings are fine and only need to be polished.

WHEN DOES AN OLD CROWN NEED TO BE REPLACED?

Old fixed restorations have to be removed if

- the edge of the restoration is protruding, which can cause gingival inflammation and secondary caries defect

 

- the edge of the restoration is to deep below the gingival level and it causes gingival inflammation and periodontitis

- after the cementation procedure the patient sense temporo mandibular joint problems

 

- it is not aesthetic and the patient would like to change it

 

- it is made of metal and the patient have metal allergy
