CRACKED TOOTH

WHY DO TEETH CRACK?

Several factors can cause tooth crack, lateral wall crack or cusp crack:

- old amalgam restoration is restored with composite filling with thin tooth wall.

- root canal treated tooth

- tooth reconstructed with post

- caries defect can undermine old restorations.

- trauma

HOW CAN A CRACKED TOOTH BE RESTORED?

The first thing is to elevate the gingival margins of the tooth supragingivaly.

If the crack is located below bone level, then we have to elevate the tooth with orthodontic procedures or with surgical crown lenghtening.

Sometimes the cracks can be reparied with an aesthetic filling, but in most of the cases we have to make a new restoration.

If the crack involves the tooth's pulp chamber, then we have to do a root canal treatment.
